COMMUNITY MINDED

We, at the State Bank of Delphos and Ottawa County Bank, pride ourselves on being community minded members of our respective communities.  As we continue to be successful, we intend to give back to our communities through our volunteer services.

For over 20 years we have provided the OUR CHECKING ACCOUNT program to USD #239 middle school/junior high school.  This has been a very well received learning experience for our seventh and eighth graders.  For many of them this is their first experience with writing checks, making deposits, maintaining a check register and reconciling their accounts.  We hope that this develops life long habits and aids them in becoming financially responsible adults.

This year the State Bank of Delphos and Ottawa County Bank will be stepping up this education process with a web-based program produced by EverFi.  This is a digital learning platform for critical life skills and will be required for all seniors at Minneapolis High School.  (We hope to offer this at Glasco High School also, but all of the necessary arrangements have not been made at this time.)

This web-based program will provide learning modules for Saving, Banking, Payments, Interest Rates and Credit Cards, Credit Score, Financing Higher Education, Rent vs. Owning, Taxes and Insurance, Consumer Fraud and Investing.

The cost of this program is being wholly underwritten by the State Bank of Delphos and the Ottawa County Bank.  Again, our goal is to develop young adults who once they leave high school and home will use their finances and credit wisely.  We feel credit is a very useful tool when used responsibly and we want to provide these students with the necessary tools to learn these important skills.

The State Bank of Delphos and Ottawa County Bank, serving our customers with Commitment, Experience, and Quality Service.  Feel free to call our toll free number or stop by any of our three locations to experience exceptional customer service.

Court: Ariz. citizenship proof law illegal

WASHINGTON - States can't demand proof of citizenship from people registering to vote in federal elections unless they get federal or court approval to do so, the Supreme Court ruled Monday in a decision complicating efforts in Arizona and other states to bar voting by people who are in the country illegally.

They would need permission from a federally created panel, the Election Assistance Commission, or a federal court ruling overturning the commission's decision, to make tougher requirements stick.

Justice Antonin Scalia, who wrote the court's majority opinion, said federal law "precludes Arizona from requiring a federal form applicant to submit information beyond that required by the form itself."
